ATRIUM AIR · INDOOR AIR QUALITY

Whole-Home Humidifier Installation in Toronto & the GTA

Make dry winter air more comfortable with a humidifier selected for your home and HVAC system. ATRIUM AIR installs and services GeneralAire evaporative and steam humidifiers across Toronto, Thornhill, North York, Richmond Hill, Markham and Vaughan.

The right humidity starts with the right assessment

Dry air, static electricity and seasonal movement in wood finishes can point to low indoor humidity. Before selecting equipment, we consider existing moisture levels, air leakage, heating runtime and window condensation. Our goal is controlled moisture that supports comfort without over-humidifying the home.

GeneralAire humidifiers: compare your options

These manufacturer-listed models illustrate common evaporative and steam choices. Availability and the exact control package are confirmed when quoting. Home size alone is not enough to select capacity.
GeneralAire GF-1042DMM/DMD bypass evaporative humidifier
Bypass evaporative

GeneralAire GF-1042DMM/DMD

A Legacy Series bypass evaporative humidifier using a water-soaked pad and heating airflow. Manual and digital configurations are available; we confirm the control package, installation access and maintenance requirements when quoting.
GeneralAire GF3200DMD Bypass evaporative whole-home humidifier
Bypass evaporative

GeneralAire GF3200DMD

A compact bypass option for compatible forced-air systems. Warm airflow passes through a wetted pad to add moisture. We check plenum access, bypass routing and the supplied control before recommending this model.
GeneralAire GF4200DMD Bypass evaporative whole-home humidifier
Bypass evaporative

GeneralAire GF4200DMD

Another evaporative option when the home's moisture demand and duct layout call for a different configuration. Suitability depends on heating airflow, insulation, air leakage and available installation space.
GeneralAire GF4400A Fan assisted evaporative whole-home humidifier
Fan assisted evaporative

GeneralAire GF4400A

A built-in fan moves air through the evaporative pad. This can be useful where a conventional bypass arrangement is impractical. Plenum clearance, electrical supply and service access still need assessment.
GeneralAire GF5500 electrode steam humidifier
Electrode steam

GeneralAire GF5500

The GF5500 electrode steam humidifier generates moisture electrically and includes the GFX4 automatic digital humidistat. GeneralAire lists output up to 28.5 gallons per day, depending on the installation configuration. Steam production does not rely on furnace heat; compatible blower controls, a suitable electrical supply, water, drainage and steam distribution still need professional assessment.

Evaporative vs. steam: what changes?

Evaporative humidifiers

Bypass and fan assisted models pass air through a water-soaked pad. Performance depends on airflow and operating temperature. We review how the unit connects to your furnace, where water drains, and whether the pad can be reached for seasonal maintenance.

Steam humidifiers

An electrode steam humidifier generates moisture independently of furnace heat production, while still needing proper air distribution and control interlocks. We check the water requirements, electrical capacity, steam routing and drain arrangement before installation.

What our installation assessment covers

We inspect duct space, service clearances, water supply and drainage; review humidistat and blower control integration; and explain model-specific maintenance. The quote sets out equipment, installation work and any required electrical coordination. After installation, we test operation, inspect for leaks and demonstrate seasonal adjustments.

Repair and seasonal servicing

If the humidifier is not adding moisture, is leaking, or repeatedly displays a fault, we check the pad or cylinder, water valve, drain, humidistat and airflow controls. A larger unit is not always the answer: a blocked pad or incorrect control setting may be the underlying issue.

Humidity and fresh air work together

For stale air or moisture concerns, explore HRV and ERV installation and service. If airflow is uneven, see our residential and commercial ductwork services. We can also assess condo HVAC compatibility before recommending humidity equipment.

Frequently asked questions about whole-home humidifiers

Which is better: an evaporative or steam humidifier?

Evaporative systems use airflow and a wetted pad and are often a practical choice for compatible furnaces. Steam systems generate moisture electrically and may suit higher demand or shorter heating cycles. We assess operating conditions, installation requirements and maintenance before recommending either.

Can you add a humidifier to an existing furnace?

Often yes. We inspect the supply and return plenums, controls, water connection and drainage. Clearances and equipment compatibility determine which unit can be installed safely and serviced easily.

Can a humidifier work with a heat pump?

It depends on the equipment and operating temperatures. Evaporative output changes with airflow and plenum temperature. Steam may be worth considering when demand cannot be met by an evaporative unit; blower and control integration still matter.

What humidity setting should I use in winter?

There is no single setting suitable for every home. Adjust the humidistat for outdoor temperature and window performance. If condensation appears, lower the setting and investigate ventilation or moisture sources rather than continuing to add humidity.

How often does a whole-home humidifier need maintenance?

Follow the model's instructions. Evaporative pads need regular inspection and replacement; steam cylinders require inspection and replacement as specified. Water quality and hours of use affect service frequency. We also check valves, drains and controls.

How much does humidifier installation cost in Toronto?

The installed price depends on the model, duct modifications, control wiring, water and drain access, and any electrical work. Request a written quote after an assessment so the scope and exclusions are clear.

Does a humidifier replace an HRV or ERV?

No. A humidifier adds moisture; an HRV or ERV exchanges indoor and outdoor air. When air feels stale or windows show condensation, the ventilation system and humidity controls should be assessed together.

Can you install a humidifier in a condo?

Compatibility depends on the condo HVAC unit, duct access, plumbing, drainage and building rules. A condo heat pump does not automatically support a duct-mounted humidifier. Management approval may be required before changes.

What warranty applies?

ATRIUM AIR provides a one-year installation labour warranty. Equipment parts coverage follows the manufacturer's terms for the selected model. The written quote identifies the applicable coverage and exclusions.
